A. The Wailers were not just Bob Marley! The overall goal for The Wailers News is to showcase not just Bob Marley, but the legacy of all The Wailers. We consider any singer and player who has ever carried the Wailers' message to be a member of The Wailers, and these are the people who we have livicated this website to. This would include Bob, Bunny and Peter, and also Constantine "Vision" Walker, Junior Braithwaite, and past and present members of The Wailers Band.
A. You would probably get a different response to this question everytime you asked it to people, but The Wailers News believes that you cannot go wrong with any of the albums in the "collection guide" section. You can start at the beginning of their careers, or venture into their solo projects. Either way, you are sure to find some incredible music.
A. This is a tough question to answer, but for The Wailers News personally, from The Wailers we branched out into the soul groups that originally influenced them, such as The Impressions, The Temptations, doo-wop, and others. Also, picking up music by Joe Higgs, The Wailers' original music coach/mentor, and all other types of reggae, ska, rocksteady, dub, and dancehall. There is so much great music out there that you will probably like if you are a fan of The Wailers.
A. MP3's are a hot topic these days, some for them and some against. With this said, when used appropriately, mp3's can be used to help a potential buyer in choosing whether or not to purchase an album. However, as with most any technology, mp3's have the potential to do bad when abused. Do not base your musical collection on mp3's because you will miss out on the experience of owning the actual album (with liner notes, photos, etc.). Albums like The Complete Wailers sets, released on JAD Records, strive to pay royalties to the musicians involved in the recordings, and are so important for all Wailers fans to own. When in doubt, buy the album! However, if you must have mp3's, there are plenty of search engines out there that will help you get what you want.
A. Caribvibe.com's Reggae Index has several links to sites with Bob Marley chords/tabulature, and other reggae acts as well. There are also books of Bob Marley material that reprint sheet music and guitar chords and most online book stores should have them. The On-Line Guitar Archive (OLGA) has chords/bass tabs for both Bob Marley and Peter Tosh songs.
A. The Wailers News continues to transcribe the lyrics to many Wailers songs, but if you are looking for Bob, Bunny or Peter solo lyrics, there are some online sites that offer them. For Bob Marley lyrics, check out the official Bob Marley page at www.bobmarley.com. The Jammin' Reggae Archives also has a large listing of reggae lyrics, including those of Peter Tosh, Bob Marley and many others.

A. The lineup has had many changes over the years, but the most current information that The Wailers News has in terms of the lineup include: Aston "Familyman" Barrett on bass, Al Anderson on guitar, Earl "Wya" Lindo on organ, Earl Fitzsimmons on keyboard, Gary "Nesta' Pine on lead vocals, Drummie Zeb on drums (not from Aswad), two female backing singers, percussionist and saxophonist. In the recent months, the line-up has included Everton Gayle on saxophone.
A. The Wailers Band consists of extremely talented musicians, many of whom were longtime members of both the original Wailers and the solo years with Bob Marley. They do devote nearly their entire show (with the exception of a few songs) to playing Bob Marley & The Wailers material. This offends some people and at the same time delights others. The Wailers News saw the band live and even though an entire show of covers was not really what we were looking for, we still enjoyed the show a great deal based on the fact that these players are just so talented.
A. The Wailers Band also tours under these names from time-to-time, as well as using the name The Wailers. This can bring about confusion as some people expect to see Bunny Wailer and others among the lineup, but this is just not the case.

A. The Marley family now owns all rights to the massive catalog that Bob Marley created, including all live material, demos, and other unreleased songs. If you are like us and have been longing for the official release of this type of material, the Marley family is responsible for holding back. They seem to like licensing songs for remixing purposes, but will not release originals by Bob Marley & The Wailers. Hopefully this will all change in the near future.

A. Pauline Morris, Peter's cousin, manages the Peter Tosh estate called "Tosh Is Within," which is, "a non-profit making, educational organization, created to preserve and spread the legacy of Peter Tosh." The Marley estate could learn a few things from the Tosh estate because in the recent years, loads of Peter Tosh material which was previously unreleased (live songs and singles) is now seeing the light of day. You can contact the estate by writing to: Tosh Is Within Inc

A. Bunny Wailer's forthcoming autobiography entitled "Old Fire Sticks" co-written by Roger Steffens, is still being worked on and a possible release date of 2001 has recently been announced. As with anything good, it just takes time, so we all have to be patient. Roger Steffens has let us read some segments of it, and it is simply outstanding. The book should really shed a lot of light on Bunny and The Wailers.

A. An online search can bring up Peter Tosh and Bob Marley merchandise. If you attend a Wailers Band concert, there is plenty of merchandise to purchase, from shirts to posters. As for Bunny Wailer, there really is not much of anything. If you are looking for Marley family related items, www.themarleystore.com should have what you want.
A. Simply send us an e-mail stating that you no longer want to receive The Wailers Reporter, and you will be off. If you have changed your e-mail address, please let us know that too.
A. Send The Wailers News an e-mail at: ini@iration.com and we will try to answer the question as best we can. Don't be afraid to ask a question, because chances are there are other Wailers fans out there that want to know the same thing. |
