"No Recognition Of Anniversary?" -
1998 marks the 25th Anniversary of the release of two classic Wailers albums, "Catch A Fire" and "Burnin'". However, it looks as if Island Records is not planning any special reissues to commemorate these anniversaries. Here is our idea for a 25th Anniversary reissue which would include: Catch A Burnin

Who wouldn't want to buy albums like the above? There would be something for everyone, from the longtime Wailers fan to the newly born Wailer-ite.

The precedent has already been set for such releases, with the recent Curtis Mayfield 25th Anniversary reissue of "Superfly", the John Coltrane "Blue Train" Enhanced CD with alternate takes, among many more.

 Island, are you listening?

"A House Of Blues Profile" -
House Of Blues - Bob Marley Bob Marley was honored on the House Of Blues webpage with a "Profile Of The Week", for the week of December 16th. Unfortunately the House Of Blues webpage changes its profile weekly eliminating the chance to see it after the week was over. Luckily, HERE it is (in its entirety) for your reading pleasure, just as it originally appeared!

"Bob Marley Festivals" -
February 6th marks what would have been Bob Marley's 53rd birthday, and to commemorate this event, Bob Marley's memory is being celebrated with countless celebrations around the world. Some of the major festivals include an entire Bob Marley week at the 20th Annual Reggae Sunsplash in Jamaica and a special Miami benefit festival with legendary musician and guitarist Carlos Santana headlining! See the bottom of this page for more Bob Marley birthday celebration dates!

There is also a Bob Marley festival tour, touching nearly every state in the United States. From what we understand, this is also called "Marley Magic '98" and will feature Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers, and Rita Marley, but the specifics are very sketchy! Here are the dates for the tour:

"Bunny Wailer Plays New York... Again" -
Bunny Wailer performed at the Beacon Theatre on December 14th to an almost full house. Despite the fact that there was a curfew at the Beacon Theatre, Bunny was reported to have played a great show (what more would you expect from him?).

He played around 90 minutes, backed by the Psalms (formerly The Gaylads), and was also joined by the legendary Constantine "Vision" Walker. Bunny reportedly played his more well known songs because of the time restriction. From what we hear the only downside to this concert was the 10:30 pm curfew at which time Bunny's mic was cut off and he had to leave the stage.

"High Times With Stephen Marley" -
January 1998 High Times  In the January 1998 issue of High Times magazine, Stephen Marley is featured on the cover (see left), and also has a great interview inside with Steven, done by writer Steve Bloom.

A great quote from the interview comes when Bloom asks Steven what the title, "Fallen Is Babylon" means. Steven responds, "The closer we get to what them call the millennium, the more urgent and direct the messages become. Babylon is the whore of the whole world who bring bondication to people through the system."

This issue of High Times is the annual Jamaican/reggae issue. This issue also features articles on Burning Spear, a review of "Honorary Citizen" the Peter Tosh box set, a review of the 1997 Reggae On The River Festival, a lengthy Lee Perry interview, and a whole lot more. Pick it up!

"New Releases" -
Ernest Ranglin Tribute With all of the numerous Bob Marley tribute albums out, legendary guitarist Ernest Ranglin has thrown his own tribute into the mix. The album is called "Tribute To A Legend, Bob Marley", and is out on the Kariang record label.

The cover is at the left (sorry for a terrible picture of it!), and here's the track listing which features Ranglin's magnificent guitar instrumentals:

1. Tribute To A Legend
2. One Drop
3. Iron Zion
4. Africa Unite
5. Stir It Up
6. Nice Time
7. Natty Dread
8. Talking Blues
9. Hurts To Be Alone
10. Rastaman Chant
11. Guiltiness
12. Duppy Conqueror
13. Easy Skanking
14. Smile Jamaica
Ernest is joined on this album by legendary Bob Marley & The Wailers' keyboardist Tyrone Downie, and also trombone wizard Vin Gordon, among others.
