"Birthday Wishes To 2 Legends" -
Bunny & Marvin ŠThe Wailers News On April 10, Bunny Wailer will celebrate his 51st birthday, and we would like to send out a very irie birthday wish to him. Bunny was born Neville O'Riley Livingstone in 1947, and as everyone probably already knows, was one of the founding members of The Wailers. Bunny has been in the music business for over 35 years, continually putting out excellent music throughout. Happy birthday Bunny, and continued success and cool runnings in the future.

Another music legend who would have celebrated his birthday this month is the one and only, Marvin Gaye. Gaye was born on April 2nd, 1939 in Washington, DC. Not only did Gaye have an influence on the face of soul and R&B music, but also on all musics in general.

"One Of The Greatest Artists" -
VH1 100 Greatest ŠThe Wailers News Bob Marley was ranked number 24 in VH1's (cable music channel) "100 Greatest Artists of Rock and Roll". The 100 Greatest Artists were selected by over 600 present day musicians. However, as usual, Bob's bredren Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer were paid no recognition. To see the other artists ranked in this list, click the picture at the left.

"Ky-Mani To Perform In Africa" -
Kymani Marley Ky-mani Marley will perform a show in Senegal, Africa on April 4th as part of the Senegal's Independence Day Music Festival, held at the Demba Diop National Stadium in the capital city, Dakar. This festival celebrates Senegal's independence, which was won on June 20, 1960.

Chances are most people reading this will not be able to attend, but the concert is planning on being filmed as part of a documentary "made of the entire trip from Miami to Dakar." Also scheduled to perform at this event are Patra, Mad Cobra, and Mr. Sunday. For more information check out the event's official website by clicking HERE!

So you might be asking yourself, what's so special about Ky-Mani's appearance at this event? Well among other things, this show is nearly 18 years to the day that his father (Bob) perfomed at Zimbabwe's Independence Celebration on April 17th & 18th in 1980. It isn't everyday that non-African musicians play at the anniversary of a country's Independence. This should be quite an event.

Ky-Mani is also scheduled to release his first official solo album on the Shang Records label. Check for it soon!

The site features lyrics to their songs, a history of the band, a tour itinerary, and a soon-come Melody Mart, for purchasing Melody Maker items.

In other Melody Makers news, those with RealAudio capabilities can hear a live concert in it's entirety from Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers, as it happens, on April 8th. The show will broadcast live from the House Of Blues in Los Angeles, California. Get all of the info by clicking HERE!

"Rolling Stone Covers Tour" -
Bob Marley Rolling Stone Rolling Stone magazine and AT&T are currently having a travelling exhibit of some of their best covers, hitting select colleges across the US in the rest of April, May and the beginning of June. The travelling exhibit started in January, and also features items from the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Museum.

Among other covers featured, there is a large exhibit with the August 1976 issue of Rolling Stone, with Bob Marley on the cover and featured in the issue. It's completely free, so check HERE to see if it's coming some place near you.

"10th Annual Tamika Awards" -
The 10th Annual Tamika Awards, a Jamaican music awards show, was held on March 8th at the Lincoln Center in New York City. At the show, Ky-mani Marley walked away with the award for "National Male Vocalist of the Year". Also awarded at the show was reggae legend Gregory Isaacs, who won the "Bob Marley Lifetime Achievement Award", beating out other nominees such as Lee Perry and Ken Boothe.

"The Triumphant Return Of Junior Byles" -
Junior Byles ŠThe Wailers News We're not only Wailers fans, but also reggae fans in general, and reggae is not complete without the music of legendary vocalist Junior Byles. With Hearbeat Records' recent release of "Curly Locks: Best Of Junior Byles & The Upsetters 1970-1976", he has been discovered and rediscovered by audiences everywhere. Among his many great songs are "Curly Locks" and "Da Da".

Well, Junior is going to play his first ever concert outside of Jamaica, at this years 5th Annual Sierra Nevada World Music Festival, from June 19-21 at the Feather River in Marysville, California. To find out more on this show visit the Jammin' Reggae Archives' section on the festival HERE!
