Wailers Reunion Concert-

The Wailers Band have recently reunited (see story below), and their first U.S. show back together, will occur at the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival '97 - Summer Solstice Celebration, in Marysville, California.

The 3-day event will feature Reggae, African, and World Beat music. The Wailers Band (with newly reunited members: Tyrone Downie, Al Anderson, and Seeco Patterson) will perform on Saturday, June 21 (the Summer Solstice). Along with the Wailers on the 21st, Israel Vibration, the Congos, and the Abyssinians will also perform.

Tickets will be around $50 for a 3-day pass, and camping is allowed along the Feather River. For more information call (415) 472-5550. Tickets are available through mailorder at:

Happy Birthday!-

We would like to wish Bunny Wailer a very happy birthday, because on April 10, Bunny Wailer will celebrate his 50th Birthday. Neville "Bunny" Livingstone, the youngest of the Wailers, was born in 1947.


Bunny in NYC-

Bunny Wailer is scheduled to perform at the Sting '97 Reggae Festival at Madison Square Garden in NYC, NY on Wednesday April 9 for his 50th anniversary (his birthday is the 10th!). This is a rare appearance for Jah Bunny and should not be missed! Other artists scheduled to perform include Dennis Brown, Barrington Levy, John Holt, Anthony B, Marcia Griffiths, and Morgan's Heritage. The concert is sponsored through the Coca-Cola Concert Series, and tickets can be purchased from TicketMaster - by calling (212) 307-7171 or can be ordered online by clicking here. The show begins at 7:30 PM, and tickets range in price from $30.00 to $50.00.

Wailers Band Regroups-

The Wailers Band have announced that they will be regrouping. The new lineup will include Al Anderson on lead guitar, replacing Junior Marvin who is leaving the group. Tyrone Downie will also join the group on keyboards. The band has booked tours of Europe and Brazil, and hopefully a complete tour of America is in the works!


New Releases-

The Complete Wailers: 1967 -1972 - Details are sketchy but it looks as if JAD Records, in conjunction with Tuff Gong/Island will be releasing a 10-CD collection of The Wailers, from the years of 1967-1972, when the Wailers recorded for JAD Records (Johnny Nash, Arthur Jenkins, and Danny Sims). The liner notes are written by Roger Steffens. The set claims to have numerous unreleased songs and some already released songs. The set is due to be released sometime in the spring.

Marley Magic Festival - This excellent live concert which was recorded on June 7, 1996 in Cental Park, New York City, and has finally been released by WEA/Lightyear Entertainment. The concert was in honor of Bob Marley and featured the entire Marley family, including such artists as: Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, Julian and Damian Marley with the Uprising Band, Yvad, Cedella Marley Booker (Bob's Mother), and Rita Marley. The concert is available on double CD/double cassette or on a 2 hour video. The double CD features 4 songs that aren't included on the video. Both the CD and video are currently available in stores.

Reggae For Kids Volume II - This album features Bunny Wailer, Freddie McGregor and Yvad. The album is produced by Dr. Dread and is being released on the RAS Records label. Release date unknown.

Dancehall Queens Movie Soundtrack - This soundtrack for the movie "Dancehall Queens" will feature a track by Melody Maker, Cedella Marley (Bob & Rita's daughter). Release date unknown.


Exhuming Bob's Body-

Rita Marley is reportedly going to exhume (dig up and move) Bob Marley's body in Jamaica, and move it to Ethiopia. Why she is doing this remains to be seen, and is causing quite an uproar in Jamaica, over Jamaica's most famous son.
